The Fiber Optic Association has developed curriculum guidelines for training course approval and only approves schools or training organizations meeting our standards. Schools or training organizations which offer training which meets FOA standards are listed on this website and are authorized to offer FOA certifications.

Build and develop the skills required for entry-level employment as a technician in a Fiber Optic or Telecommunications company. This course covers the fundamental principles of fiber optic technology, fiber optic cable termination, fiber optic networks, fiber optic splicing procedures, fiber optic troubleshooting and fiber optic testing equipment. You’ll follow safety standards and protocols as you learn how to terminate fiber optic cables, perform a mechanical and fusion splice, and learn how to calculate a system loss budget. Students will also learn how to construct, test, and troubleshoot cabling systems using an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (ODTR) and how to operate a Fusion Splicer. Upon satisfactory course completion, you’ll be eligible to take the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) certification exam, a nationally recognized certification.
