The Fiber Optic Association has developed curriculum guidelines for training course approval and only approves schools or training organizations meeting our standards. Schools or training organizations which offer training which meets FOA standards are listed on this website and are authorized to offer FOA certifications.

STL - FTTx Technician Course provides fiber optic network fundamentals and installation best practices for anyone in the fiber optics field, including network owners, designers, engineers, and technicians involved in the design or installation of FTTx (FTTH, FTTP, FTTB, etc.) fiber networks. Our courses emphasize STL innovative optical network solutions aimed at facilitating fast and efficient rollouts, reducing installation complexities, and total cost of ownership for FTTx systems. Though STL offers instructor-led online training for products, foundations, and applications, our technician oriented courses involve self-led pre-work and intensive hands-on activities completed onsite. Typical duration of our technician's program is from 2 to 3 days, depending on group size. Upon successful completion of this course, students should achieve the following objectives: • Have broad knowledge on fiber optics fundamentals, standards, optical networks design, and applications • Proper handling and preparation of fiber cables for installation, termination, and splicing • Terminate fiber and Install fiber optic connectors • Conduct basic splicing operations • Perform connector inspection, insertion loss and OTDR tests • Understand OTDR trace interpretation • Understand installation best practices and safety issues • Successfully pass the CFOT® certification test Fiber to the X (FTTH) Emphasis • FTTx network architectures • FTTx standards • FTTx network components • Planning and designing FTTH networks • FTTx installation best practices • FTTx testing and troubleshooting • Successfully pass the CFOS/H certification test
