FOA Approved Training

The Fiber Optic Association has developed curriculum guidelines for training course approval and only approves schools or training organizations meeting our standards. Schools or training organizations which offer training which meets FOA standards are listed on this website and are authorized to offer FOA certifications.

Note: ONLY schools which are listed here are FOA-Approved and authorized to offer FOA certifications. Schools listed here are required to offer FOA certifications to all students. If you have any questions regarding a school's status with the FOA, contact the FOA staff.

Fiber Preparation & Termination • Objectives • Describe the history of fiber, including the importance of structured cabling and standards. • Explain where different types of fiber connectors are used. • Demonstrate the safe and efficient use of: • Adjustable Cable Stripping Tool • Cable Cutter • Kevlar Cutter • Fiber Stripper • Compare and contrast the different methods of fiber termination. • Demonstrate the safe and efficient use of • Fiber Cleaver • Cleave & Secure connectors • UniCam Splicer • Fusion Splicer • Fiber Testing & Troubleshooting • Objectives • Compare and contrast the different methods of fiber testing. • Demonstrate the safe and efficient use of: • Visual Fault Locater • Fiber Inspection Microscope • Video Inspection Scope • Optical Power Meter (OPM) and Light Sources • Measure actual loss in fiber cables and systems • OTDR Operation • Objectives • Describe the function of an OTDR. • Explain the features and functions of a typical OTDR. • List the procedural steps on how to test a fiber with an OTDR • Demonstrate the safe and efficient use of an OTDR • Use the OTDR to test various fibers.
